Welcome to the Parry Sound Power and Sail Squadron, where you can learn about boating safety.
The Parry Sound Power and Sail Squadron, with some 100 local members, is a unit of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS), a nationwide organization of boating enthusiasts.
We work to increase boating safety and enjoyment by providing instruction in seamanship and navigation for all boaters, whether power or sail. Supported by a small staff in Canadian headquarters, all teaching and administrative work is handled by volunteers. CPS is non-governmental, non-regulatory and non-military. Membership is not restricted by size or type of boat; you don’t even need to own a boat to be a member.
Purely and simply we are a dedicated group of volunteers interested in improving safety and enjoyment on the water through training and education.
We were at cope cog island this past weekend and scoured the place for the geocache. We did not find it. We think it may have been removed or misplaced! Please advise so we know if we should return or not
Well, you won’t find it. I was out there a month ago and found it, or at least half of it. It seems that a bear had crushed it with its mouth, as evidenced by the teeth marks. We will need to get a replacement out. Thanks for looking.
I would like to schedule a pleasure craft safety check
We typically do a safety check at the beginning of the boating season and recommend coming back to us in May/June 2024.
Hi there, experienced commercial captain visiting Sept 13th to 16th 2024. Staying with family. We are staying on a private island in the 3 mile gap area in the south channel.
we have rented a 24ft bow rider to explore the islands but I am unfamiliar with the waters. I’m surprised to see such little information available on the internet.
I have the Navtronics App but understand not everything is charted. We just plan to stick to main routes similar to the Island Queen routes and just plan to take it easy.
could you recommend any resources that I can read up on for highlights and potential hazards?
thank you.
Hi Nigel,
Welcome to Parry Sound.
Other than the official marine paper charts available in town, I would recommend the Navionics boating app which provides vector maps for this area and is frequently updated. Navionics runs on Android or Apple devices.
Cheers, Joe
